The heart of the home, the kitchen.
From all spaces we do have in our home, the kitchen is one of the most special ones because we tent to spend more fun time there. This special place, gather all conversations and all type of fun entertainment which allowed the families to have their best memories of all.
The Kitchen as space has been truly a great transformation during all times especially during the 1900s where this space begins to have the remembrance and protagonism that has today. Since then, Its been an entire evolution in design and meaning.
History
The kitchen used to be the room for cooking and preparations and was located in the last part of the home. it was hidden and not to be shown to any guest. it was only for the inside of the family members and there was a lot of time spent there due to the long runs of meal cooking and the big preparations there were prior to any meal. Of course, by then; meals were more elaborated and at that point, all was to be made from scratch and very little possibility of any storage or rotting meals. It was not until the 30s and 40s that the kitchen starts gaining more popularity in the house and all the appliances like the fridge and cooking stoves were appearing to the common people. I am talking about those appliances that help us today to store, prep, and cook all our meals faster and in a more inviting way.
since then, the kitchen has open to all kinds of transformations and social invitations to the point that we consider today, this space; the heart of our homes.
Today, there should not be any rule of what color or how to design the kitchen (except for the triangle distribution of the main areas, which ill explain better later).
If you have ever read me, you will notice I always say that design is personal and have no rules of how it should be done.
Our kitchen is no exception.
It should have your own ingredient that makes you feel at home and happy. I am talking about those details that show your personality and give extra effort and distinction to this magical space. those details and decor are what will make your family, and guests feel invited and welcome to start a great moment.
in other words, the kitchen should be bare naked your soul and core of the family.
TRENDS
There are a few trends that are marking style and making the difference these days in the kitchen design, like using a duo color or material in it. Since two years ago, the kitchen has been updating into less conservative simple spaces and starting to merging into the rest of the home areas like the family room or the living room area. The kitchen is becoming part of the overall design.
The duotones allow us to keep the same energy flow and the same tones thru out the entire space and the kitchen becomes more part of the home rather than being an independent part designated only for cooking.
This is when the kitchen becomes the culinary sanctuary you are looking for, no matter if it's big or small; start claiming the magical place and wonderful feeling for all of us.!
Sometimes, The combination of two materials can make the feeling more dramatic or drastic, and maybe we can achieve that rustic and relax feeling with just smoothing the cool white kitchen we all go for, with smooth and warm wood veneer. Personally, as a designer; I always suggested including some wood into the design. Not only to bring the warmth of nature but to give some interesting and focal points to the plain white kitchen most of the people like. White is timeless but also can be impersonal and lack a special character so I'm always looking for some ideas to introduce the personal and interesting touch to this ideal place.
I'm posting pictures for you to follow my idea.
Notice how white high gloss lacquer and wood veneers meet for a more sleek look. To get earthy, relax, and modern look; use a combination of off white, grey, and taupe tones in smooth and or lacquered finish with some wood touch that will result in just the perfect combination for a sleek organic and personal design.
Remember, when combining two different finishes do solid and flat with grain or texture. or stay with a flat surface and do two different colors. Stay away from mixing many wood patterns and strong colors. Why? well, if you combine many textures could be to busy for the ambient and space. We should be looking for balance and merge of the style throughout the home, not to overdose it! lol.
Different wood patterns can confuse the style and overwhelm the feeling of your culinary sanctuary.
As I said, there is no rule to follow on these finishes. Today, the kitchen should be a reflection of you and because the protagonism it has; the perfect way to invite your family and friends to spend more time and memories there!
love...
